Are you looking for information on how to buy Walt Disney World tickets?
Does it seem like there are too many steps or you don’t where to start?
Trust me, I’ve been there. I know how overwhelming it can seem.
You want to get ahead on the trip planning, picking out all those cute vacation outfits, and most importantly figuring out all the yummy Disney places you want to eat at. I get it.
The very first thing you need to do is buy that Disney World ticket.
This is because none of the above can happen if you’re not guaranteed entry first.
I know how daunting it can be trying to figure it all out, especially with all the recent changes Disney has made to their calendar and reservation system. So I’m going to walk you through the step-by-step how to purchase that ticket.
There’s also a video linked here from my Instagram page walking you through these steps with an example.
I suggest having this post open on either your desktop or your phone and opening the My Disney Experience to follow along with these steps as you do it.
After reading this post make sure to read this post here showing you how to make a Park Pass Reservation because that’s Step 2.
As of right now, Disney still requires that you make a Park Pass Reservation for the park you plan to visit. You can’t enter the park without first purchasing your ticket, and then reserving entry there.
Read on for a step-by-step guide of how to buy that Disney World ticket online.
Step 1: Log into My Disney Experience
The first thing you want to do to buy your Disney World tickets is log into My Disney Experience.
You can either do this on a desktop or by downloading the app on your phone. If you don’t have a My Disney Experience account go ahead and make one now. If you do, go ahead and log in.
I’ve linked the desktop version here. Though personally I find it easier to do it on the app because there’s less scrolling around. In this tutorial I’ll be using the app, but if you’re on the website you’ll start in the right-hand corner where it says “My Disney Experience”.
Step 2: On the app tap the “+” sign in the center of the screen.

Tap “Buy Tickets and Passes”, then “Theme Park Tickets”. If you’re on a desktop click here. From here you’ll be given two options: tickets for 1 park per day or a Park Hopper ticket. But what’s the difference between the two?
- 1 Park Per day simply means that you can only visit one park per day, just as it sounds. For example, if you have this ticket and choose to go to Magic Kingdom that day, you’ll only be able to go to Magic Kingdom.
- Park Hopper means that you’re able to attend more than 1 park per day. So you’d be able to go to both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios on the same day, for example.
Pick the type of ticket you want from those options and proceed.
Step 3: You’ll See a Calendar Highlighted in Either Green or Yellow.

This calendar is a reference for the Park Pass Reservation System. Once you’ve ordered your tickets you have to then make a Park Pass Reservation. This calendar is letting you know which parks are available and which aren’t.
Green means that all the parks are available and yellow means only some are available. I suggest making a park pass reservation as soon as you’ve paid for your tickets, especially if you plan to go to Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios as those parks tend to book up pretty fast.
Step 4: Select the Number of Days You Will be Visiting a Park

The more park days you pick, the less each ticket costs. Now these savings aren’t really that significant unless you plan to go for 8 or 9 days. So don’t feel compelled to add more days simply to save money because it can get pretty exhausting walking around day after day.
Pick the Day You’re Going From the Calendar

The day you choose determines how your ticket is priced. Some days are more expensive than others. To read more about saving money on Disney Park tickets and find out which days will cost you more than others click here.
But the general premise is this: holidays and weekends cost more. So as I write this, it’s Spring Break time in April. This is why April tickets will cost more than May, for example. Once we’ve reached May Spring Break season is coming to an end.
Add Your Party and Pay for Your Tickets

Purchase a ticket for the number of people who will be going with you. Disney considers anyone over the age of 10 an “adult” and does charge them an adult price. I have no idea why they do this since an 11-year old is clearly not an adult, but rules are rules. A nice thing to note though is that any child under 3-years old is free!
In my family we’re two (officially over 18) adults and 2 kids aged 7 and 9. So I’d purchase two adult tickets and 2 kids tickets. This is also the last year that I can get away with this since next year my 9-year old will be turning 10. For now I enjoy the slightly discounted rate.
Click “Continue” and Purchase Your Tickets
Once you’ve clicked “continue” and purchased your tickets you’re officially done. Congrats, you’re going to Walt Disney World!
